On the former grounds of an outlet of Hans im Glück lies this upscale Indian restaurant from a celebrity chef in Mumbai (362 Orchard Road, 9100-0949). This is his first outlet outside of India, which, as the name suggests, lies 27 degrees to the west of us. They do a modern take on Indian food, with a tangy lean in many dishes, particularly his eponymous butter chicken. It was interesting enough, even if I still prefer a traditional version. Thankfully, those lamb ribs above were more traditional.
The thing that I was actually more curious about was the beef tartare in the background, given that such a dish would be unexpected in an Indian restaurant on multiple levels. It also turned out to be rather tangy, as was one of his desserts too. Don't get me wrong; the tanginess had its appeal, and the quality of the ingredients were all good enough for us to clear the plates with ease. But the tanginess also got tiring enough over a few courses that I won't be rushing back here either.
Actually, the thing that I might come back for is the bar in front. All I had today was a truffle and orange lassi, which was respectably subtle enough not to overpower the drink, and instead just perfume it. If that's any indication of how the bar approaches its other drinks, then maybe I'll come back for more of them, making the food just an accompaniment.
