While Barrier Air is the major user of Kaitaia airport with 13 flights a week it is not the only user. Most weekdays Sunair also operate into a Whangarei-Kaitaia return flight for medical staff working at the Far North's local hospital. The Sunair flight leaves Whangarei about 8.00am and then the return flight leaves Kaitaia about 4.00pm.
