At the time of the blog's 10th anniversary Fraser Weir sent me an email reflecting on what has happened over the last 10 years. It's amazing how much how the domestic scene in New Zealand has changed.

These are the airlines that have disappeared.



17 October 2010

Pacific Blue commenced domestic operations on 12 November 2007 flying Auckland–Wellington, Christchurch–Wellington and Auckland–Christchurch sectors. Later Christchurch to Dunedin flights started.

11 March 2011

While not operating at airline service in its own right Air National was New Zealand's largest charter company and operated a number of services for Air New Zealand





March 2012

Air Discovery's main scheduled service was between Rotorua and Gisborne. This ended in June 2008 but the company kept operating air taxi services from Whakatāne and Tauranga before moving operations to Waiheke Island. It was taken over by Flight Hauraki.






31 October 2012

While Salt Air ceased its Kerikeri-Whangarei-North Shore service it continues to operate scenic flights and tours from Kerikeri





24 August 2014

Mainland Air continues to operate training and charter services from Dunedin. The cessation of the Oamaru-Christchurch marked the end of its attempts to operate scheduled services which previously included flights from Dunedin to Invercargill and also Alexandra and Queenstown





25 October 2014

Vincent Aviation was an operator of scheduled air services in its own right but also provided charter services including for Air New Zealand.






28 April 2015

North Shore Air operated from North Shore Airport to both Tauranga and Kerikeri.





14 July 2015

Great Barrier Airlines began operating to the Barrier in 1983. It's arrival revolutionarised travel to Great Barrier Island. The airline also operated services to Northland and courier services.





30 July 2016

Kiwi Regional Airlines operated flights briefly from Dunedin to Queenstown and Alexandra and for a longer period from Nelson to Dunedin, Hamilton and Tauranga





20 August 2016

Air Freight NZ ended its Convair 580 operations when Convair ZK-KFH flew from Christchurch to Palmerston North and return.





26 August 2016

Eagle Air had a proud history that started in 1969 with the start of flying training and regular services in 1975. The airline was eventually put out by Air New Zealand and became part of the Link carriers.





19 January 2017

Airwork's Fairchild Metro 23 ZK-POE flew the last flight for NZ Post (Express Couriers) from Auckland to Palmerston North and return.
  




10 August 2018

FlyStark was still offering scheduled services early in 2018 but on 10 August 2018 their last aircraft was sold.





8 May 2018

FlightHauraki which had operated services from North Shore to Whangarei and Kerikeri and to Waiheke Island was sold to Air Auckland in late 2017 but it officially became Air Auckland on 8 May 2018. 





27 October 2018

air2there commenced service in late 2004 as a city hopper air service for the centres around the Cook Strait area. 





18 November 2019

Air Nelson ends operations with the cessation of the Mount Cook Airlines Air Operating Certificate. As from the 19th of November 2019 the Air Nelson Bombardier Q300 aircraft operated under the Air New Zealand Air Operating Certificate.  





9 December 2019

Mount Cook Airlines ends operations with the cessation of the Mount Cook Airlines Air Operating Certificate. As from the 10th of December 2019 the Mount Cook ATR 72 aircraft operated under the Air New Zealand Air Operating Certificate.
