We soaked up every ounce of sun an opportunity to be outside like it was our job to do so, and while I was visiting with a high school friend my husband and two oldest boys hiked the Pillbox.  Located only 15 miles to the east of Waikiki in the area of Lanikai the Pillbox offers a great view.  Not an easy hike, but if you are in relatively good shape you can do this hike.  My boys did the hike in an hour. The hike is only a mile round trip, but it is the vertical grade on this hike that will get you, and the best part of this hike is that it is free.
