A Taste of Home

Germany has many amazing foods, but once in a while I just crave a little taste of home.  This week I was craving American style cinnamon rolls.  They make cinnamon rolls here in Germany, but they are just a little dryer and not nearly as sweet.  While I have posted a recipe for cinnamon rolls before, I found this simple recipe the other day and actually like it better.  The precious was for vanilla pudding cinnamon rolls which if I remember correctly the dough was stickier and a little harder to work with.  I don't make cinnamon rolls often as they are such huge calorie bombs, but the children were beyond thrilled when they walked in the door from school and found them waiting for them.  Well, it is the weekend.  As I sit here writing, my neighbor is celebrating something.  It sounds like they are having a good time, but I pray they all go home by midnight. Wishing you a lovely weekend!

Easy Cinnamon Rolls
2 cups of warm milk
1 packet of dry yeast
1/2 cup of melted butter
1/2 cup of sugar
let packet of yeast do it's work for about 1 minute before adding
4 cups of flour all purpose
stir till just blended and cover with a doll and place in a warm spot for 1 hour
then  when the time is up add
2 teaspoons of salt
1 teaspoon of baking powder
3/4 cups of flour all purpose

turn out onto a floured counter top and roll out the dough.  Spread 3/4 cup of softened butter,  3/4 cups of brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon.

Roll up the dough, slice, and place in a baking pan.  I used parchment paper just for easy clean up, but is not necessary. Allow rolls to rise for 30 minutes and then bake in a 350 degree preheated oven for 25-30 minutes.  Should be a golden brown.  While the rolls are baking in a bowl whisk together

4 ounces of softened cream cheese
1 teaspoon of vanilla
2 tablespoons of softened butter
2 tablespoons of milk
1 cup of powder sugar.  If too thin add a little more until you reach the desired thickness.

When the rolls are done, take out of oven and pour cream cheese frosting over the top.
Recipe from Tasty.  Enjoy!
